The Edenbridge Bonfire Society confirm that they will be burning an effigy of disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong at their annual Bonfire Night.

An English town is planning to burn an effigy of disgraced American cyclist Lance Armstrong at their annual bonfire event.

Organisers of the annual celebration in Edenbridge have decided to express their anger at Armstrong following the release of the United States Anti-Doping Agency's 1,000-page report, which accused the 41-year-old of running "the most sophisticated, professionalised and successful doping programme the sport has ever seen".

Spokesman of the Edenbridge Bonfire Society, Mark Young, said: "Lance Armstrong is certainly the biggest villain in sport, with fans across the globe feeling cheated by a man who was thought to be whiter than white."

Every year a celebrity effigy is burnt at the event in Edenbridge. Last year it was Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli.
