Former Newcastle United defender Steve Carney has passed away at the age of 55 following a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Carney racked up 134 appearances over six years for the Magpies after joining the club from Blyth Spartans in 1979.
It is understood that Carney, who worked as an electrician by trade, was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, according to BBC News.
Carney also had stints at Darlington, Hartlepool United, Rochdale and Carlisle United during his playing career.
