Manchester United owners 'demand 15% budget cuts'

Manchester United owners the Glazer family reportedly order budgetary cuts of up to 15% across all departments apart from the first-team squad.

Manchester United owners the Glazer family have ordered budgetary cuts of up to 15% at Old Trafford, according to the Sunday Express.

Every department head has reportedly been asked to scale back spending apart from Louis van Gaal, who has been given additional funds to strengthen the first-team squad in the transfer window.

The club's youth academy and scouting system have also been affected by the cost-cutting measures, reportedly causing anger and "undermining spirit" among United employees.

A source told the newspaper: "Few people can understand why this is happening with so much money now coming into the game, particularly at Manchester United. It hasn't been good for morale."

United is currently valued at £3 billion, making it the third-richest club in the world behind Real Madrid and Barcelona.
