Manchester United fan 'ordered to remove club crest from Twitter account'

A Manchester United fan is ordered to remove the club's official crest from his Twitter account due to breach of copyright laws.

A Manchester United fan was reportedly ordered by the club to remove the official crest from his Twitter profile due to a breach of copyright laws.

Jack Holt, who created the account under the handle @ManUtd_Players, used the page to list everyone who has represented United.

The fan was contacted by United's brand protection department stating that he could not use the official club badge as his Twitter picture for the account, which has just over 100 followers.

"I was using the current club crest as the avatar," the Daily Mail quotes Jack as saying. "This is clearly where the problem is. It had the black background, slightly different in that the official account uses a white background.

"The account was described in its bio and in no way purported to be official. It could be seen as being so, of course, but with only 100 followers I highly doubt anyone did!"

The account was suspended, but is now back online with a different avatar.
