Darren Ferguson misses final game of season due to "severe family issue"

Doncaster Rovers manager Darren Ferguson - son of legendary Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson - misses his side's final game of the season due to family reasons.

Doncaster Rovers manager Darren Ferguson has missed his side's final game of the season due to a "severe family issue".

Ferguson, who is the son of legendary Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, was absent from the dugout for today's clash with Wigan Athletic as Gavin Strachan - son of former Scotland manager Gordon Strachan - took the reins.

The 46-year-old's absence has raised concerns over the health of his father, who was last seen in public presenting Arsene Wenger with a gift prior to Manchester United's match with Arsenal last weekend.

Unconfirmed reports on Twitter have suggested that Ferguson has been admitted to hospital with a serious health issue, although no official details have been revealed.

"Rovers manager Darren Ferguson will not be at Saturday's game due to family reasons," read a statement on Doncaster's official website.

"Gavin Strachan will oversee the final game of the Sky Bet League One season in the manager's absence.

"Darren asks for privacy, and will provide an update through the club during the week."

Alex Ferguson led United to 13 Premier League titles during a 27-year managerial career at Old Trafford.
