Roma are sanctioned by UEFA following crowd disturbances at the Champions League semi-final first leg against Liverpool at Anfield.

Serie A giants Roma have been fined €50,000 (£43,657) by UEFA following crowd disturbances in their Champions League semi-final against Liverpool.

The Italian club have also been banned from selling tickets to their own fans for their next two away games in UEFA competition, with the second deferred under a probationary period of two years.

Reds fan Sean Cox sustained serious head injuries after being attacked by a group of Roma supporters ahead of the first leg at Anfield on April 24, with two Italian men later charged and remanded in custody.

UEFA has also opened disciplinary proceedings against Liverpool, whose fans were charged with setting off fireworks and throwing objects ahead of the semi-final first-leg.

The charges against the Merseysiders will be discussed at the next meeting of UEFA's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary body.
