Liverpool fans set off flares ahead of Roma clash

Liverpool fans ignore the club's warning and set off smoke bombs ahead of the Champions League clash with Roma.

Liverpool supporters have set off flares in close vicinity to the team's Anfield stadium ahead of the Champions League clash against Roma.

The club issued a plea to fans ahead of the game, warning them that they could face arrest if they use pyrotechnics near the ground.

Images posted on social media and footage broadcast by Sky Sports News appears to confirm that smoke bombs were set off around Arkles Lane, a road the away coach is due to travel along.

Ugly scenes marred Liverpool's home match with Manchester City in the previous round when the away coach was pelted with missiles and pyrotechnics were set off.

A heavier police and steward presence is out in force for the Roma game.
