Hungarian authorities 'alert IOC to Sochi terror threats'

The Hungarian Olympic Committee reportedly alert the International Olympic Committee to a letter warning of a terrorist attack in Sochi before the Winter Games.

The Hungarian Olympic Committee have confirmed that they have received a letter warning of a terror threat before the Winter Olympics in Sochi next month.

Fears of terrorism have dominated the build-up to the Games following reports that Russian authorities are allegedly hunting for female suicide bombers in the area.

According to the Daily Mail, Committee chairman Zsolt Borkai has revealed that the International Olympic Committee and the event's organisers have been alerted to the threat.

HOC secretary general Bence Szabo told Nemzeti Sport: "A letter written in Russian and English was received at the HOC's international email account, threatening the Hungarian delegation to Sochi with terrorist acts.

"They also told us we had better stay home. Obviously the HOC will not make the decision on how seriously to take the threat or, God forbid, to stay away from the Olympics."

Meanwhile, The British Olympic Association have insisted that they have not received any threats against Team GB.
