The World Cup final reportedly broke record viewing figures in Germany as they watched their nation be crowned global champions.

A goal by Mario Gotze in extra time ensured that Joachim Low's side secured a 1-0 victory over Argentina in the showdown at the Maracana in Brazil.

While there was plenty of support in Brazil for the eventual winners, an all-time record of 34.65 million people back in Germany watched the final on television, according to Sporting Intelligence.

In the UK, the BBC came out on top over ITV in the ratings by gaining four times as many viewers than their rivals.
