Twitter to determine Rio de Janeiro's Christ colours for World Cup final

Twitter users will determine how long the Christ the Redeemer statue will be lit up with the World Cup finalists' colours on Sunday.

Rio de Janeiro's Christ the Redeemer statue will be lit up with the colours of the two World Cup finalists on Sunday.

Twitter users will determine how long each finalist lights up the statue high above Rio by tweeting their vote using the hashtag #ArmsWideOpen and one nation's country code - either #GER, #ARG or #NED.

Whichever country receives the most tweets will dominate the skyline for a longer period ahead of the match at the Maracana below.

"We will capture the opinions of fans around the world and project them over Rio's Christ," Carlos Moreira Jr, Twitter's director of marking development for Latin America, told Reuters.

Last night's German demolition of Brazil was the most-tweeted sports game ever.
