Exeter confirm Brazil anniversary friendly

Exeter City unveil plans for a friendly against Fluminense in Rio de Janeiro next summer to mark the centenary of the club's historic tour of South America in 1914.

Exeter City have confirmed that they plan to mark their historic match in Brazil 100 years ago with a friendly against Fluminense next summer.

The Grecians were sent as representatives of the Football Association on a tour of South American in 1914, with a select Brazilian side forming to beat Exeter 2-0 in a match of historical significance for the Selecao.

Exeter will celebrate that game with a pre-season friendly against Fluminense in Rio de Janeiro on July 20, 2014.

The match will not be played at Fluminense's famous Maracana Stadium, which will be busy with next summer's World Cup.

A side hat could feature Fluminense veteran Deco will instead take on Paul Tisdale's League Two outfit at their former home, the Estadio das Laranjeiras.
