Former Celtic and Everton defender Alan Stubbs has revealed that he will take on the Movember challenge in order to raise awareness of prostate and testicular cancer.

The 42-year-old will grow a moustache for the month of November, like many men up and down the country, after he was diagnosed with testicular cancer back in 1999.

After having the testicle removed, Stubbs was forced to undergo another operation once the cancer returned in a tumour near to his spine 18 months later.

"To be honest, like most men I didn't check my testicles," Stubbs told the Daily Star. "You should. Football is a macho game, but there's no point in being macho about cancer. Go to the doctor. Don't try to save face, save your life."

Stubbs, who is now clear of cancer, currently works as a coach at Everton.
