Kick It Out chairman questions timing of Sol Campbell's racism claims

Kick It Out chairman Lord Ouseley says that Sol Campbell's racism claims draw "cynicism" because the former England footballer is "trying to sell a book".

Kick It Out chairman Lord Ouseley believes that Sol Campbell's racism claims draw "cynicism" because the retired footballer is "trying to sell a book".

The 39-year-old has claimed in the book that he would probably have remained England captain "for more than 10 years" had he been white.

"Trying to link the two things draws cynicism because he is trying to sell a book," the Daily Mail quotes Lord Ouseley as saying. "It is very difficult not to attract cynicism by doing it the way he has."

Former England players Ian Wright and John Barnes have refuted Campbell's claims, while ex-Three Lions manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has dismissed suggestions that Campbell was treated differently by the Football Association because he was black.
