Report: Five die in Colombian celebrations

Reports coming out of Colombia claim that five people lost their lives while celebrating their nation's qualification for the World Cup.

Official reports have claimed that five people have died while celebrating Colombia's qualification for next year's World Cup.

Los Cafeteros achieved the feat thanks to a 3-3 draw with Chile on Friday night, which sparked jubilant scenes in the Colombian capital of Bogota.

However, the celebrations were marred by violent outbreaks that resulted in three people being shot dead and a further two being killed in road traffic accidents.

"Nationally there were over two thousand fights and police had to use all their resources," said police chief general Rodolfo Palomino.

The authorities also confirmed that over 100 motorists had been detained, having been caught drunk at the wheel.
