Former Premier League footballer Nile Ranger was reportedly questioned by police after arguing with his girlfriend in the middle of a motorway.

The 23-year-old, who now plays at Blackpool following a stint at Swindon Town, is believed to have been spotted by witnesses rowing with his other half as both cars crawled along the M55 at night.

According to the Sunday People, Ranger told a witness that he was angry with the woman because she refused to hand back the keys to his house after they split up.

The couple are said to have eventually pulled over and parked on the hard shoulder near Preston.

Ranger, who was released by Newcastle United in 2013, has previously been accused of punching a woman and was cleared of rape in March this year.
