Barcelona to name training pitch in Tito Vilanova's memory

Barcelona announce that they will name a pitch at the club's training ground after Tito Vilanova following the former manager's passing in April.

Barcelona have announced that they plan to honour former manager Tito Vilanova by naming a pitch at the club's training ground after him.

The 45-year-old passed away in April at the age of 45 following a two-year battle with throat cancer.

The Catalan giants announced their decision to honour Vilanova with the pitch following Tuesday's board meeting at Camp Nou.

Vilanova, who played for Barcelona during his career, worked as Pep Guardiola's assistant for four seasons before taking on the head coach role himself in 2012.

The Girona-born coach stepped away from his role in the club last summer due to his illness.
