Aston Villa reportedly face an investigation over Financial Fair Play with regard to the sale of their stadium in May.

Aston Villa will reportedly face an investigation over a potential FFP breach in response to the sale of their stadium in May.

The club's billionaire owners Nassef Sawiris and Wes Edens bought Villa Park for £56.7m ahead of the club's re-entry into the Premier League.

This deal was orchestrated via NSWE Stadium Ltd - a company controlled by the duo, who then worked with the club to ensure it complied with the EFL's profit and sustainability rules.

According to The Sun, Villa claim that the investigation from Premier League chiefs is part of standard regulatory checks.

The EFL will also conduct independent enquiries into the sales by Sheffield Wednesday, Derby County and Reading of their stadiums to owners.

On the pitch, the Midlands club has suffered a challenging start to their return to the top flight, losing three of their opening four matches.
