Euan Burton admits to missing most of wife Gemma Gibbons's gold medal bout

Scotland flag-bearer and Commonwealth Games champion Euan Burton admits that he wasn't able to watch all of wife Gemma Gibbons's own judo gold-medal match.

Team Scotland's flag-bearer and judo -100kg gold medallist Euan Burton has admitted that he was unable to watch all of his wife Gemma Gibbons' fight for her own gold medal in the women's -78kg class.

Gibbons, who competes for England, lost the match to Wales' Natalie Powell, about 20 minutes before Burton's fight was due to take place.

Burton told BBC Sport: "I was in the warm-up room, trying to stay as focused as I could and just caught the back end of the fight.

"She will be massively disappointed, because she came here for gold."

Burton and Gibbons married in 2013, and currently reside in Edinburgh.
