Megan Fletcher: "I don't think I've had a better day"

Team England judoka Megan Fletcher reveals that she is elated to have won the gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in the -70kg event in Glasgow.

Team England judoka Megan Fletcher has admitted that she has "never had a better day" following her gold-medal win at the Commonwealth Games.

Fletcher defeated Scotland's Sally Conway to set up a final clash with New Zealand's Moira de Villiers in the -70kg event.

The 24-year-old secured the gold-medal triumph as she defeated De Villiers with an ippon throw.

She told reporters: "I beat the British number one in the semi-final and that was an amazing performance and I was so emotional after that. But to win gold as well, I don't think I've had a better day ever.

"It's not really sunk in and the day has been a bit of a blur and I just feel so happy to have a gold medal in my hands.

"My preparations have been fantastic and it's really paid off. Gold was my target, I knew I had a tough draw but I always had confidence."

Fletcher's win followed Danny Williams's success on the mat earlier in the day as Team England improved their gold-medal haul at the Games.
