Canada edge out United States

Canada beat rivals the United States 3-2 to finish top of Group A in the women's ice hockey tournament at the Winter Olympics in Sochi.

Canada have beaten the United States 3-2 in the group stage of the women's ice hockey tournament at the Winter Olympics.

After a tense first period that ended goalless, the US broke the deadlock in the second through Hilary Knight, who converted following an assist from Anne Schleper.

Defending champions Canada turned the match around in the space of three minutes, with Meghan Agosta levelling the scores before Natalie Spooner made it 2-1.

The Canadians looked to have made the match safe with four minutes remaining when Agosta raced clear to score her second goal of the contest, but the US pulled a goal back with 30 seconds to go to set up a nervous finish.

However, Canada held on to defeat their rivals and finish as winners of Group A.
