Great Britian's gymnasts are overwhelmed with a first medal in the men's team event since 1912.

Great Britain's medal winning gymnastics team have admitted that they are overwhelmed with their achievement.

Louis Smith, Sam Oldham, Kristian Thomas, Max Whitlock and Dan Purvis sealed GB men's first Olympic team medal since a bronze in 1912.

Team GB had originally thought they had secured a silver before an appeal from Japan caused a shake-up in the standings.

Pommel horse master Smith is thankful that the team's plan delivered a medal.

He said: "A lot of the top countries were quite wobbly so the decision was made to go for an easier routine, put the big score down.

"It goes to show what can happen when you can put good routines in the bag early and the result was amazing."

Teammate Oldham said that he was still struggling to take it all in.

He said: "We are all shocked and overwhelmed to be honest, the whole experience has been amazing.

"The support we got from the audience and the British public today was just incredible. If you said to us at the start of the day we would be in third place we would not have believed you."

The Team GB women face their team event later this week.
