Italy's Nicola Bartolini made history at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships by taking the gold medal in the men's floor exercise.

The 25-year-old took the bronze medal at the European Championships earlier this year and posted a stellar total of 14.800 - with 8.600 on execution - to take the gold in Japan.

In doing so, Bartolini became the first Italian man to become world champion on the floor exercise, while Japan's Kazuki Minami had to settle for silver with 14.766, despite nailing his 2.5 twisting double back somersault.

Finland's Emil Soravuo claimed a memorable bronze for the Nordic nation, finishing just 0.100 above South Korea's Sunghyun Ryu in fourth place.

Great Britain's Hayden Skinner pulled out all the stops on difficulty with a triple-twisting double back somersault on his opening tumble, but he landed outside of the floor area and finished eighth with a total of 14.100.
