Nile Wilson "loving every single minute" at Glasgow Commonwealth Games

Teenager Nile Wilson tells Sports Mole that he is "loving every minute" in Glasgow after England effectively won team gold in the men's artistic gymnastics.

Soon-to-be-crowned gold medallist Nile Wilson has told Sports Mole that he is "loving every single minute" at the Commonwealth Games after today's team final.

The 18-year-old from Leeds is part of the England artistic team that effectively claimed gold this afternoon for the first time since 2002 ahead of hosts Scotland, who broke the Australia-Canada-England dominance in the event for the first time since 1978.

Although gold is all but in the bag, England did suffer a blow when Sam Oldham was wheeled out of the arena after a nasty fall on his ankle in the vault, which meant that he couldn't compete in the fifth and sixth disciplines.

Speaking after England's final rotation, Wilson told SM: "It was unreal, absolutely unreal. After [Sam's] accident on the vault, we had to really get our heads in the game.

"The pressure was on after that, we had to hit all of our routines, which we did. This whole experience has just been unreal for me.

"I've gone from being the junior captain to the baby of the seniors. I'm loving every single minute of it."

Oldham's withdrawal means that Wilson is guaranteed a place in tomorrow's individual all-around final, where 24 athletes all compete on every apparatus, after he registered the second-best score behind fellow Englishman Max Whitlock.

Speaking of tomorrow's event, Wilson added: "It'll be a great battle I think. You never know what's going to happen on the day. Tomorrow's a new day, I can come out here and improve on what I've done over the last couple of days."

Wilson has also qualified for three of the apparatus finals - rings, parallel bars and horizontal bar - that take place on Thursday.
