Play is suspended at the US open as a storm gathers over the Merion Golf Club in Pennsylvania.

Play has been suspended at the 113th US Open after a storm gathered over the Merion Golf Club in Pennsylvania.

The weather klaxon sounded shortly after 11pm UK time as Tiger Woods, Rory McIlroy and Adam Scott had made their way onto the fifth green.

Phil Mickelson topped the leaderboard when the latest delay set in, playing an excellent opening round of 67 to finish on -3.

Woods is currently one-over-par, but on course for a bogey, while British hopeful McIlroy is on -1, with one putt remaining to make par on the fifth.
