Tiger Woods has ruled himself out of the Ryder Cup due to his current health situation.
The 28-year-old informed United States captain Tom Watson that he would not be in contention to be named as a captain's pick for this year's tournament.
"While I greatly appreciate Tom thinking about me for a possible captain's pick, I must take myself out of consideration,"tThe Ryder Cup's official website quotes Woods as saying.
"I've been told by my doctors and trainer that my back muscles need to be rehabilitated and healed. They've advised me not to play or practise now.
"I'm extremely disappointed that I won't be ready for the competition. The U.S. Team and the Ryder Cup mean too much to me not to be able to give it my best. I'll be cheering for the US team. I think we have an outstanding squad going into the matches."
Woods has appeared in the Ryder Cup seven times, but after missing the cut at the US PGA Championship he was no longer able to qualify automatically this year without a captain's pick.
