Jim Furyk then stepped up for the American team and landed his ball just yards from the Northern Irishman's.
Davis Love III told Sky Sports News: "You know nerves play a big part when G-Mac drives one down the left and into the trees and then Furyk does the same thing."
In the fourth game, Tiger Woods hoiked the ball way left, hitting the boundary to stop it from going out of bounds.
Meanwhile, Sergio Garcia and Phil Mickelson have also shown signs of early nerves with overhit and underhit shots respectively.
