Paul Lawrie has claimed that the comments directed at Europe's Ryder Cup team by the fans in Chicago spurred them on to defend their trophy.
Europe secured the victory on a dramatic final day at Medinah Country Club and Lawrie has revealed some of the comments he was subjected to during the competition.
The Scot said: "You get 'top it, shank it, you're a loser', stuff like that, every shot you play.
"It's pretty tough when someone is screaming and blowing in your ear that you're 'a loser', but there's not much you can do.
"It makes it all the more satisfying on Sunday night when you're standing there with the Ryder Cup in front of you and they are not. I think it helps us, to be fair."
Lawrie will be competing in the Dunhill Links Championship this week.
