Paul Lawrie, Sergio Garcia "whipped" by Rory McIlroy, Graeme McDowell in practice

Paul Lawrie says that he and Sergio Garcia were "whipped pretty bad" by European teammates Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell in a practice match yesterday.

Paul Lawrie admitted that he was struggling with jet-lag yesterday after he and Sergio Garcia were soundly beaten by Rory McIlroy and Graeme McDowell in a practice match.

The Scot flew out from the UK on Monday and, following his beating at the hands of the Northern Irish duo, he admitted to feeling the effects of the transatlantic journey.

"Sergio and I got whipped pretty bad," he said. "We lost a bit of cash today, which was not good. But it was nice to see the course.

"I was obviously pretty tired. We only got in yesterday and I'm not the best with jet lag, so I was pretty tired out there. I struggled a bit, only made a couple of birdies, but hopefully we'll play better tomorrow.

"My game is not suited to fourballs or foursomes. I think I'd be pretty easy for everyone to play with, so [Jose Maria Olazabal] is maybe just trying a few things out this morning. Rory and Graeme both played pretty well, and Sergio and I didn't hole any putts, so it's going to be pretty difficult."

The 2012 Ryder Cup gets officially underway on Friday, when the foursomes tee off at Medinah.
