Webb Simpson leads WGC-Bridgestone Invitational

Webb Simpson shoots 64 for his first round at Firestone to lead the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational by one shot.

A splendid opening round of 64 has seen Webb Simpson take a one-shot lead in the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational at Firestone.

The American, looking for his first win since last year's US Open, started his round on the back nine, covering it in 31 shots without carding a single bogey.

He was six-under through 11 holes, but a bogey at the third halted his progress.

Birdies at six and seven got the the 27-year-old's round back on track, before another dropped shot at the final hole saw him finish the day on six-under-par.

One shot off the pace is Henrik Stenson, fresh from his second-placed finish at the Open Championship.

The Swede navigated 18 holes without dropping a shot on his scorecard, but the highlight of his round was an eagle at the second.

Ryan Moore, Chris Wood, Tiger Woods and Keegan Bradley are all on four-under-par, while Luke Donald is among a group of six players on three-under-par.
