Thorbjorn Olesen wins the Sicilian Open on 15 under-par after holding off a final-day charge from Englishman Chris Wood.

Thorbjorn Olesen held off the challenge of Chris Wood to win his maiden tour title at the Sicilian Open this afternoon.

The Dane carried a three-shot lead going into the final day's play but was chased down by the Englishman, who produced a fantastic fourth-round display.

Wood played his first 14 holes in nine under-par to move into a joint lead with the 22-year-old, but dropped a decisive shot at the 17th to leave the way open for Olesen.

A birdie at the 14th and four consecutive pars saw Olesen home in 15 under-par and added a maiden tour victory to his three runner-up finishes last year.

"I'm still in shock. I struggled early on with a bogey at the first but I'm really happy now," Olesen told Sky Sports News.

"This means so much to me. My goal is to go all the way in this game. It will be tough because there are a lot of good players out here but this win is a big step in the right direction."

Nicolas Colsaerts and Soren Kjeldsen were both in contention but ended up three shots back in joint third.
