Martin Kaymer pips Bubba Watson to Grand Slam of Golf title in Bermuda

US Open winner Martin Kaymer beats Masters champion Bubba Watson on the first hole of a playoff to win the Grand Slam of Golf at Bermuda's Port Royal Golf Course.

Martin Kaymer won a playoff with Bubba Watson to secure the Grand Slam of Golf in Bermuda on Wednesday.

The tournament pits the year's Major champions against each other and came down to a shootout between US Open winner Kaymer and Masters holder Watson.

The German led going into the second and final round, having begun with six-under-par 66, but Watson was in hot pursuit and was tied for the lead by the 10th.

He was ahead by two come the 17th, but a bogey coupled with a Kaymer birdie brought the two players level on six-under, and the European birdied the first additional hole to get another one over on the man whom he beat in the Ryder Cup singles at Gleneagles last month.

Rory McIlroy and Jim Furyk, who was invited to complete the field with McIlroy having won two Majors in 2014, and Adam Scott having turned down the opportunity to play, were behind from the early going and ended the 36 holes at the Port Royal Golf Club on two-over and three-over-par respectively.
