Bae Sang-moon takes Sony Open lead

Bae Sang-moon leads after the first round of the Sony Open in Hawaii.

Bae Sang-moon has opened up a one-shot lead over Chris Kirk at the Sony Open in Hawaii.

The 27-year-old South Korean, whose only victory on the PGA Tour came at the HP Byron Nelson Championship in May, carded seven birdies in a bogey-free opening round of 63 at Waialae Country Club.

Meanwhile, an eagle at the par-five 18 saw Kirk finish the day on six-under-par.

Brian Stuard and Ryan Palmer share third on five-under, with Retief Goosen heading a seven-strong pack on four-under.

Adam Scott (-3), Matt Kuchar (-2) and Zach Johnson (-2) all lurk within five strokes of the lead.

The cut is currently projected at even-par, although close scoring means that Jordan Spieth (E) is currently below the line.
