Rory McIlroy retains lead at Valhalla

World number one Rory McIlroy heads into the final round of the US PGA Championship with a one-shot lead as he seeks a second successive major title.

Rory McIlroy has maintained his one-shot lead going into the final round of the US PGA Championship.

The world number one birdied three of the last four holes to finish with a 67, which leaves him one ahead of Bernd Wiesberger, who had finished with three birdies to card a 65.

"It was a gutsy performance," McIlroy told Sky Sports News. "Every time I made a birdie I thought I would make a bogey.

"But I finished strongly and it puts me in a great position for Sunday."

Meanwhile, Ricky Fowler is a shot adrift on 11 under after a 67, while Phil Mickelson and Jason Day are on 10 under.
