Lee Westwood, Rory McIlroy in strong positions

Lee Westwood and Rory McIlroy are within touching distance of the lead heading into the final round of the European Masters.

Lee Westwood and Rory McIlroy are both in strong positions heading into the final round of the European Masters in Switzerland.

World number two Westwood shot a bogey-free seven-under 64 to finish 13-under par and trail Wales's Jamie Donaldson by one shot.

"It's always nice to play a round with no fives and no bogies, especially on this course. I made a nice couple of putts and I'm just happy with the way the day went," the 38-year-old said.

McIlroy, the reigning US Open Champion, has been leading for the majority of the tournament but bogeys on 16 and 17 left him two back on 12-under.

The 22-year-old Northern Irishman said: "The bogies on 16 and 17 were quite disappointing but I'll just have to make it up on Sunday. It wasn't the greatest way to finish but I'm looking forward to making a fast start tomorrow and putting a bit of pressure on the boys."

The event in Switzerland is the first chance to register qualifying points for next year's Ryder Cup in Medina.
