United States win the Presidents Cup for the ninth successive time with victory over the International team at Quail Hollow.

United States have won the Presidents Cup for the ninth time in a row with a 17.5-12.5 victory over the International team at Quail Hollow.

Although the hosts have been in control of the tournament since the opening day, their opponents remained competitive during the closing stages of Saturday's play to reduce the deficit to 11-7.

Requiring just another 4.5 points from Sunday's 12 singles, United States were clear favourites to get over the line, but they were made to work for their success.

Jordan Spieth made light work of Cameron Davis, the American prevailing 4&3 to join the short list of players who have come through a President Cup with a perfect record across five matches.

However, an inspired effort from Si Woo Kim against Justin Thomas kept things interesting, the South Korean fighting back from two down to win on the final hole.

Kim heightened tensions between the pair when shushing the crowd after making an important putt on the 15th hole, before he eventually won their match with a 10-footer on the last.

Nevertheless, despite Sebastian Munoz registering a notable 2&1 triumph over world number one Scottie Scheffler, the International team were not doing enough in many of the other ties.

Wins for Patrick Cantlay and Tony Finau set up Xander Schauffele to hole the winning put for the USA, getting the better of Corey Conners on the final hole.

At that point, USA were 15.5-9.5 ahead with five matches still out on the course, the International winning three of those contests to keep the scoreline respectable.
