Heavy snow stops play on day one of the WGC Accenture Matchplay Championship in Arizona.

Day one of the WGC Accenture Matchplay Championship in Arizona has been called off due to heavy snow.

Rain hit the Dove Mountain course soon after the tournament's 7.25am start local time before sleet and snow struck.

No first-round matches were able to be completed due to the weather.

Rory McIlroy, Tiger Woods and Luke Donald all failed to tee off at the course, but Sergio Garcia, Ian Poulter and Lee Westwood were all able to make some progress.

Officials are expecting the tournament to be completed by Sunday due to an improving weather forecast throughout the week.
