PGA Tour commissioner Chris Finchem declares that he can see no "overriding reason" to agree with proposals to ban or limit anchored putting.

The PGA Tour have declared that they can see no reason to support proposals which want to outlaw the controversial style of anchored putting.

Ruling bodies including the US Golf Association have set out proposals to limit the use of belly putters in a move that has divided elite players across the tour.

PGA Tour commissioner Tim Finchem has insisted that after a thorough review he can see no reason to agree with any decision to ban belly putters.

He said: "We have to look if anchoring is good, bad or indifferent for the game and we have concluded it's not been negative.

"The thinking of the players and our board of directors, and others that looked at this, was the absence of data to conclude there is a competitive advantage to be gained by using anchoring.

"Given the amount of time that anchoring has been in the game, there was no overriding reason to go down that road."

The Royal & Ancient Golf club, which governs the Open championship, has said that it will make no further comment on the issue until a consultation period ends on February 28.
