World number one Rory McIlroy is hoping that his second-round exit at the BMW PGA Championship will enable him to claim victory at the Irish Open this week.
Defending champion McIlroy missed the cut by four shots at Wentworth, which he hinted was down to fatigue kicking in following a gruelling campaign.
However, having been given an extended break of sorts heading into tomorrow's Irish Open, the 26-year-old is confident that he will claim his third win in five events.
"I feel very prepared," BBC Sport quotes him as saying. "Wednesday's pro-am was my third practice round. I haven't played three practice rounds for a tournament since the Masters.
"I really just want to do well this week and missing the cut at Wentworth has given me a bit of extra time which I think I can use."
McIlroy, who was triumphant at the WGC-Cadillac Match Play and the Wells Fargo tournament at Quail Hollow, has also vowed to donate any prize money from this week to his own personal charity - The Rory Foundation.
