LIV Golf announces that Bryson Dechambeau has signed to play on their tour, the development coming a day after PGA Tour started handing out suspension to defecting players.

Bryson Dechambeau has become the latest player to switch allegiances from the PGA Tour to LIV Golf.

On Thursday, the inaugural tournament on the rival tour got underway at the Centurion Golf Club in Hertfordshire, England, the competition featuring 48 players.

Of those participants, 17 had been members of the PGA Tour, but an array of talent have already notified the organisation that they were returning their cards to play on the controversial tour which is being backed by funds from the Saudi Arabia Investment Fund.

As the competition got underway, the PGA Tour handed out suspensions to the relevant players who had not resigned, including Phil Mickelson and Ian Poulter.

After a day of high drama off the course, that has continued into Friday with Dechambeau being confirmed as the next high-profile name to link up with the series.

Speaking on the addition, chief executive Greg Norman described the American as an "exciting addition", adding: "He's not afraid to think outside the box and supports our mission of doing things differently to grow our game."

Dechambeau is due to tee up at the second LIV Golf event in Portland, Oregon, which commences at the end of June, and it has been widely reported that Patrick Reed will follow his compatriot in leaving the PGA Tour.

With LIV Golf currently talking up their use of a 48-player field and a desire to make rounds shorter for the television audience, it is unclear what will happen once more players sign up.

As it stands, there are currently 12 teams of four players, and increasing the amount of players in a given field will reduce the chances of rounds being completed within the target four-hour window.
