Bernard Gallacher still in critical condition

Bernard Gallacher remains in a critical condition in hospital, according to broadcaster Renton Laidlaw.

Broadcaster Renton Laidlaw has confirmed that former Ryder Cup captain Bernard Gallacher is still in a critical condition after spending a third night in hospital with a reported heart problem.

Gallacher, who captained Europe on three occasions, was admitted to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary on Thursday evening, and Laidlaw revealed that the 64-year-old is still under sedation.

"I was up at Aberdeen on Saturday. He is obviously in a critical condition and he is sedated but he has had a quiet night," Laidlaw told BBC Radio Scotland.

"I think he is a fit person, he doesn't drink, he keeps himself fit, he doesn't smoke and hopefully he will make a good recovery.

"We don't know just what brain damage there might be but we are keeping our fingers crossed that it's not too bad."

An update on Galacher's condition is expected to come on Sunday evening.
