Europe extend Solheim Cup lead

Europe go into the afternoon fourballs with a 7-5 lead after winning the morning session in Ireland.

An impressive performance in the morning foursomes saw Europe's women extend their lead in the Solheim Cup.

Europe won 2 out of the 4 matches and halved another to take a 7-5 lead into the afternoon fourballs.

Swedish pair Caroline Hedwall and Sophie Gustafson were first out for the hosts and they made light work of American pair Angela Stanford and Stacy Lewis, winning 6&5 to add to their point yesterday.

Fellow Swedes Anna Nordqvist and Maria Hjorth were also victorious, defeating Juli Inkster and Brittany Lang 3&2.

America's only victory of the morning came courtesy of Morgan Pressel and wildcard selection Ryann O'Toole, who claimed a 3&2 win over Karen Stupples and Christel Boeljon.

In a tightly contested final match, European pair Catriona Matthew and Azahara Munoz won the 18th to square their tie against Paula Creamer and Cristie King.

Europe are looking for their first victory in the competition since 2003, with the US having won the last three meetings.
