Spaniard Rafa Cabrera Bello edges out compatriot Adri Arnaus in a playoff to win the Open de Espana title in Madrid.

Rafa Cabrera Bello ends his four-year wait for another European Tour title by winning the Open de Espana in Madrid.

The tournament was regarded as a homecoming for world number one Jon Rahm, but it was compatriot Cabrera Bello who got his hands on the trophy in his homeland.

A double bogey at the opening hole put Cabrera Bello on the defensive, the third-round leader only going on to birdie one of the opening 12 holes.

However, three successive birdies between holes 13 and 15 ensured that he got his name back on top, joined by Adri Arnaus who posted two eagles on Sunday.

After Arnaus missed his birdie putt on the first extra hole, Cabrera Bello stepped up to hole an eight-foot putt to win his first title since the 2017 Scottish Open.

Grant Forrest, Shubhankar Sharma and Julien Guerrier all finished two shots adrift in a share of third position.

Rahm eventually had to settle for a tied for 17th place, that spot only being achieved through shooting three-under-par on his final 11 holes.
