Justin Rose "proud" of singles performance

Justin Rose admits that he was "fortunate" to rescue half a point from his singles match against Hunter Mahan this afternoon.

Europe's Justin Rose has said that he feels "proud" to have rescued a share of the spoils from his singles meeting with Hunter Mahan this afternoon.

Having lost four of the opening seven holes at Gleneagles, with the other three being halved, the 34-year-old left himself with a mountain to climb.

However, Rose responded by taking four consecutive birdies, while a poor chip shot from Mahan ensured that the point was shared.

"I feel fortunate to have got a half out of that one but at this stage every little helps, especially the position I was in with three to go," Rose told Sky Sports News. "I was really proud of getting back in the match. Hunter played really well today, throwing everything at me from the off."

Rose finished in the top 30 in all four Majors this year.
