Ian Poulter: 'Rookies need to embrace occasion'

Ian Poulter admits that Europe's three rookie players will need to "embrace" the occasion when they play in their first Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.

Ian Poulter believes that the three rookies competing for the European team will savour the occasion when they play their first shot at the 2014 Ryder Cup.

Stephen Gallacher, Jamie Donaldson and Victor Dubuisson are all representing Europe for the first time, and Poulter has admitted that his teammates must try to embrace their time in Scotland.

The 38-year-old told Sky Sports News: "It's going to be new to three of them. It's something that they are going to love when we have got 3,000 fans sitting there singing and cheering.

"The adrenalin is going to be flowing. The electricity is right there and they are going to have to embrace it."

Poulter will partner Gallacher against Jordan Spieth and Patrick Reed in the third fourballs on Friday morning.
