Paul McGinley: Europe "absolutely ready" for Ryder Cup battle

Captain Paul McGinley insists that Europe are "absolutely ready" to take on the USA in the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles later this month.

Captain Paul McGinley has insisted that Europe are "in good shape" ahead of this month's Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.

Europe come into the tournament having won five of the last six meetings, and also boast four of the world's five best players among their 12-man team.

Despite this, McGinley is adamant that his side will not get over confident as they take on a "strongly motivated" US side.

"We're in good shape we're all very excited," BBC Sport quotes the Northern Irishman as saying. "Some players are playing this week who I am having dinner with tonight along with their caddies and other guys are preparing across the world.

"I'm under no illusions, if we don't win the Ryder Cup it won't be because of complacency, we know it's going to be a strongly motivated American team. This is not a case of turning up, this is going to be very difficult . We will be absolutely ready for this."

McGinley was a playing member in three of Europe's previous Ryder Cup successes.
