Ryder Cup legend Sergio Garcia is seemingly on the brink of returning to the DP World Tour to make a bid to make the European team for the 2025 event at Bethpage Black.

Sergio Garcia has submitted an application to return to the DP World Tour in a bid to make the 2025 Ryder Cup.

Back in 2022, the Spaniard was one of several legendary European players to make the decision to make the controversial switch to the Saudi-Arabia-backed LIV Golf.

Moving to a rival of the PGA Tour and DP World Tour had its consequences for the 44-year-old, who subsequently resigned from the former and was suspended and fined by the latter.

Two years have now passed since Garcia last played a DP World Tour event, his appearances in ranking events being limited to majors and on the Asian Tour.

However, that is seemingly about to change after Garcia was convinced to end his time with the lucrative LIV Golf and attempt to return to the DP World Tour.

What action has Garcia taken?

There had been fines allegedly in the region of £1m that were required to be paid by Garcia for him to put himself in line for a second stint on the tour where he made his over over two decades.

As per editor of Golf Magic Andy Roberts, Garcia will also need to serve a nine-week suspension before he is eligible to make a competitive appearance.

Furthermore, he has applied for his membership prior to the November 17 deadline, the expectation now being that he will compete at some point early in 2025.

Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald, the skipper for his second event in succession after the 2023 triumph, had previously revealed that he had spoken to Garcia about putting himself in contention for another appearance.

Garcia is the Ryder Cup's record points scorer with 28.5 and is two appearances short of equalling the all-time record.

In the 2024 LIV Golf season, Garcia put together a strong year, winning in Andalucia and posting a total of six top-10 finishes.
