Jordan Spieth has said that missing out on victory at the Open was "tough to swallow".
The 21-year-old missed a birdie putt on the final hole, which would have seen him compete in the playoff against Zach Johnson, Louis Oosthuizen and Marc Leishman.
"Right now it's a tough feeling to be that close in a Major," Spieth told BBC Sport. "To be that close on our biggest stage and come up short, how many chances do you get? It's tough to swallow.
"Who would have thought a drive on 18 was going to be what really hurt me at the end there. It's kind of hard to not hit a good one on that hole. I just wish I had given myself a little better opportunity.
"When you look up from the ball and you're getting pelted in the face it's a hard shot, and I just tried to sling one in there and I left it 40 yards from the pin on the green there."
Victory in the Open would have been Spieth's third Major win of the year. Instead, he finished tied fourth.
Johnson beat Oosthuizen by a shot in the playoff to win the Open.
