Justin Rose believes that his US Open success could help him win the British Open should he challenge at the top of the leaderboard at Muirfield.

Justin Rose has admitted that he is excited to be playing the British Open as a Major champion.

The world number three won last month's US Open at Merion, and the Englishman believes that he can draw on that experience if he is challenging at the top of the leaderboard at Muirfield.

The 32-year-old told Sky Sports News: "It'll be exciting to play as a Major champion for the first time in another Major, so if I'm coming down the last two or three holes with a chance to win, that's when I can draw upon what happened at Merion.

"Up until that point, it's irrelevant but certainly if I get myself into a winning position, then Merion will definitely help."

Roses's best performance at an Open Championship came in 1998 when he finished in a tie for fourth place.
