Rubens Barrichello has insisted that Williams should have kept him as a driver for the current Formula 1 season.

The Brazilian lost his seat at the team after a disappointing campaign last year but the 40-year-old has not ruled out a return in the future.

"I think there is still a way back," Barrichello told Auto Moto und Sport. "My heart bleeds that I cannot be there."

The former Ferrari driver also believes that he could have performed well for Williams this season, with the team having scored only 53 points so far.

"I think it's a shame for Williams because I think would have had a really big year. Not just for me, also for the team. Williams would have benefitted from me," he added.

Barrichello is currently performing on the IndyCar circuit.
