Daniil Kvyat has been punished with a 10-place grid penalty at the Italian Grand Prix after becoming the first man to break new regulations for the 2014 season.
The Toro Rosso driver went into the Italian GP as one of four people who had reached their limit of five penalty-free engines for the campaign.
His team fitted a sixth Renault unit overnight to automatically trigger a penalty which pushes Kvyat back to 21st on the grid in what is Toro Rosso's 500th grand prix.
The Russian, who is 15th in the drivers' rankings in his first season in Formula 1, had set the 11th-fastest time in a qualifying session dominated by Mercedes.
Sebastian Vettel, Pastor Maldonado and Jules Bianchi have also reached the five penalty-free engines limit.
